Answers for developers and teams

Dedicated Mac mini cloud hosting, explained.

A straightforward guide to renting a physical Mac for Xcode, macOS testing, and development. It distinguishes our planned service from what is actually available today.

Pilot status: No physical Macs are available to rent yet. There is no live provisioning, production checkout, or guaranteed launch date.

Frequently asked questions

01

What is Baremetal.ch?

Baremetal.ch is a Portugal-based, pre-launch project developing dedicated physical Mac mini rental for developers and businesses. The service is intended for macOS development, Xcode builds, testing and remote Mac workflows. Its first machine is being prepared; production rentals have not started.

02

Can I rent a dedicated Mac mini right now?

No. Baremetal.ch currently offers an early-access Mac catalog and model-specific availability alerts. Those alerts do not reserve hardware, activate a rental, or authorize payment.

03

Is dedicated Mac hosting the same as a virtual Mac?

No. The planned Baremetal.ch model assigns one physical Mac mini to a customer for an active rental rather than offering a shared virtual desktop. Tenant-isolation, credential management and secure device reset must be validated before launch.

04

What is a dedicated Mac mini useful for?

Common intended uses include Xcode compilation, iOS and macOS continuous integration, simulator-based testing, development tools that need macOS, and occasional remote development. Specific CI integrations and supported operating-system versions have not yet been announced.

05

Where will the rented Macs be hosted?

The initial pilot hardware is being prepared in Portugal, within the European Union. No network latency, availability SLA or production datacenter specification is currently guaranteed.

06

Which Mac mini configurations are planned?

The first pilot is centered on a Mac mini M6 with 16 GB unified memory and a 256 GB SSD. Mac mini M4 (16 GB / 256 GB) and Mac mini M4 Pro (24 GB / 512 GB) are proposed future configurations, not available inventory.

07

Are hourly, daily or monthly rentals offered?

Daily and monthly rental periods are planned, but are not yet offered. Final pricing, taxes, minimum commitments and eligibility requirements remain subject to approval. Hourly billing is not currently announced.

08

When does the free 24-hour trial begin?

The proposed introductory 24-hour trial would begin only after real secure remote access has been successfully provisioned and delivered to an eligible customer. It is not active today. Trial eligibility and final terms must be confirmed before launch.

09

Will I connect using SSH or a remote desktop?

Secure terminal access and graphical remote access are being considered for the service. Neither has been enabled for real rental customers. The current rental wizard only simulates access preferences.

10

Will Baremetal.ch require identity or company verification?

Individual identity verification and business registration information are planned before real rental access. The present pilot console can demonstrate identity and test-card readiness; those tests are not production KYC or a charge.

11

How do I get notified when a Mac becomes available?

Open the Mac catalog at app.baremetal.ch/upcoming and register for an alert for the desired model and rental duration. The catalog is for prospective availability notifications, not guaranteed stock or reservations.
